Hey! There I am again, with a new blog about what you could do if you go to Málaga. In my previous blog, you have been able to read funny (and less funny) typical Spanish habits. I really liked to write that, and in this blog, I would like to share with you how and what you could do to discover Málaga in the beautiful Costa del Sol, the city where I fell in love with back in summer 2017 and I really could cry from happiness being here.

Roman Theatre and Alcazaba Tour

You walk from one nice square, through the small alleys, to another amazing square. Trees here, fountains there, they are shining so beautiful in the sun. There are many old buildings in the center of which one of them is the Cathedral. Certainly worth going in for a few euros.

What is also very beautiful is the Roman theater. On Sundays, you can get in there for free. Go early, because it gets busy quickly! If you don’t want or can’t go on a Sunday, a ticket costs around €5. By the way, at the Roman theater, you can walk uphill where you have “the” view over Málaga (photo below). And if you walk up a little further you have another entrance to the Roman theater + in there is also a museum.

Visit the Fresh Food Market

One thing wat you definitely need to do when you want to discover Málaga, is to visit the fresh food market. What you immediately will notice, as soon as you walk into the market, is that the vegetables and fruit are all very beautifully presented. You can see that they are very proud of what they sell. You can drink delicious smoothies from €2, or just enjoy a snack while walking around or sitting on the terrace next to the market.

TIP: The olives are … Delicious! So many different varieties, and even if you are not an olive fan (like my sister used to be), I would give it a try.

The Mercado Central de Atarazanas is open from Monday to Saturday.

Museums

In the 2 years that I have been living here, I haven’t been to a museum once. I am not a fan of museums and art (although I am a creative person), but well… What seems to be fun is the famous Picasso museum. The Pompidou is also a popular museum.
Before or after your visit The Pompidou, you can enjoy a drink with tapa in the port of Muelle Uno. This a really nice way to discover Málaga as I say myself.
Some museums are free on Sundays.

List with different museums: – Pompidou Center – Picasso – Carmen Thyssen – Museo del Vino (Wine museum… Look, this is something for me!) There are many more!

Caminito del Rey (must see!)

This walk is very cool to do. Book in advance and maybe in the hottest summer months (July-August) it’s not the best time to go. I did this tour with 2 friends from Holland, and we made a reservation with a guide who will tell you some interesting history.
What we didn’t do well, is to rent a (we thought cheap) car. For “ONLY” € 16 per day + gasoline costs. “Well, bargain,” you think.
This car would be All-In insured, but in the end, they all added unnecessary insurance + the use of a child’s seat… -> Well, until the day of today, I still don’t have children.
The final paycheck of the car only was around €100 (instead of €16 + gasoline). Thank you car rental company!

So what I can recommend is to find an organization that offers the tour including transport. That is already possible for plus-minus €30.

Tapas Tour or Wine Tour, or for The Real Dutchies a Bike Tour!

To try as many Spanish specialties as possible, so, it could be fun to do a tapas tour. There are a few companies that organize them. The same works for a wine tour of course.
The guides also provide some information about the different types of snacks and drinks.

Multi-Task Tip:
You can even do a bike tour … including tapas & wine! Click Here
*Be careful with cycling and drinking wine, recently heard a story from a girl who is a tourguide, and that she had a group, and some people became kind of drunk and later on the day they were laying stretched out on the street! Funny story and the guide also had a nice day haha.

Castillo de Colomares in Benalmadena

Castillo de Colomares – Benalmadena

This amazing castle you can visit for only €2,50. It’s only a bit difficult to reach (My own experiences). I wanted to go with my mom one day, but the busses or trains didn’t stop close by and we neither had a car to drive.
When I went later, I went by train to Benalmadena, and I walked from the train station to there which costs some time but that was ok.

Beautiful Cities around Málaga

Málaga is seen in 2 to 3 days. It’s just a small city. But what you can do is to visit cities around Malaga such as Nerja, Granada, Seville or Ronda. Ronda is certainly impressive and not very far away! These types of cities can also be reached through organizations that offer tours with guides.
I have been to Nerja twice. A very quiet village where you can relax and the beach is super beautiful there. Watch the video underneath about Nerja so you can see yourself how beautiful it is.
